چکیده

-The effects of chlorpromazine (CPZ) on the patellar reflex and segmentally evoked spinal cord potentials were determined in the high spinal and hemiscctioned spinal cat preparations. CPZ in doses of 1-32 mg/kg given intravenously (as an accumulative dose) produced no statistically significant alteration of the patellar reflex and segmentally evoked monosynaptic potentials. The segmentally evoked polysynapti¢ potential was significantly depressed (1-32 ms/ks). CPZ was shown to cause a significant depression of facilitation and inhibition of the patellar reflex produced by electrical stimulation of the lateral and ventral funiculi of cervical cord segments 1 and 2. Facilitation of the patellar reflex produced by contralateral stimulation of the sciatic nerve was resistant to doses of CPZ but was significantly depressed by 4 rag/ks. Patellar reflex inhibition produced by ipsflateral sciatic nerve stimulation was never observed to be depressed by doses used in this study. The patellar reflex recorded ipsilateral to a high cervical (CI) and mid-thoracic (T6) hemiscction of the spinal cord was resistant to doses of CPZ (1-8 mg/kg) while the contralateral patellar reflex was depressed. The mean arterial blood pressure was significantly elevated by doses of CPZ (4--32 rag/ks). The evidence presented indicates the internuncial neuron of the spinal cord as a probable site of chlorpromazine action. Possible meehanisms of blood pressure elevation are discussed.

Effects of Chlorpromazine on Some Motor Reflexes*~-

-The effects of chlorpromazine (CPZ) on the patellar reflex and segmentally evoked spinal cord potentials were determined in various cat preparations. CPZ in doses of I-8 mg/kg given intravenously (as an accumulative dose) produced a signiticant depression of the patellar reflex and segmentally evoked potentials in animals with an intact central nervous system. Hypotension, potentiation of anes...

A clinically oriented experiment on the effect of mixed culture of neonate spinal cord transplantation on recovery of spinal cord injury

In spinal cord injuries, direct trauma by edges of sublaxated or dislocated vertebrae and indirect ischemia as a result of vascular injury necrotize the neural tissue. After spinal cord injury, tissue loss appears as micro- or macrocavitation. Accumulations of non-neuronal cells substitute spared tissue and halts axon regrowth. Lack of supporting cells (secreting trophic factors and matrix) agg...

Comparison of Agonist vs. Antagonist Stimulation on Triceps Surae Spasticity in Spinal Cord

Objectives: One of the most common and disabling complications that affects individuals with spinal cord injury is spasticity. The purpose of this study is to compare the effect of agonist and antagonist electrical stimulations on triceps surae muscle spasticity in patients with spinal cord injury. Methods: A total of 30 subjects with spinal cord injury were considered for the study. They were...

Natural Polyphenols and Spinal Cord Injury

Polyphenols have been shown to have some of the neuroprotective effects against neurodegenerative diseases. These effects are attributed to a variety of biological activities, including free radical scavenging/antioxidant and anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic activities. In this regard, many efforts have been made to study the effects of various well-known dietary polyphenols on spinal cord ...
